Summer (Festival) Fun
If you live in Canada, as I do, you may be wondering, much like I am, what we did with spring? I am fairly certain that some group of anti-spring rebels got rid of it without asking the rest of us. That aside! Its summer now and you might be wondering what a magician such as myself does during the summer! Well, let me tell you!
Well… that was a short blog.
Maybe you’re thinking to yourself, ‘I’m organizing a festival right now and I am looking for entertainment.’ Here is my recommendation on festival organisation and entertainment.
First, Have a band. No matter the type of festival, The point of a festival is to have fun, socialize, eat, and relax. With a band, Your festival attendees can do just that. They don’t have to give the band one hundred percent of their attention but they can still hear and appreciate the entertainment in the background. And if you have other activities going on in the surrounding area, your attendees will be able to hear the music throughout the festival grounds.
Second, have something alternative in terms of entertainment. Whether it’s a juggler, a circus act, a MAGICIAN, a dance troupe, etc. Give your crowd something to pay attention to. I know I’m contradicting myself in saying let them be passive but give them something to look at. But your crowd wants this. Unless you’re a music festivalwith only bands, or a silent festival with only mimes, branch out, have a diverse lineup.
Third, post your schedule both online and on the festival grounds. You want your attendees to know what’s going to happen before they arrive at the festival and what time they can expect to see things once they are physically on the festival grounds. This will let people plan their day. They will know when they want to be by the festivals main stage or maybe take a stroll to another area at a certain point in the day or evening.
Fourth, arrange for there to be food and water on or near your festival grounds. Chances are, your festival will be on a hot summer day and the last thing you need is to have people passing out from heat exhaustion, hunger, or dehydration. You want everyone to be well taken care of. People will pack their own picnics and beverages, but you want them to stick around and giving the options of food and water is going to keep them there!
NOW, these all sound great but this is my blog so I want to take a minute to tell you about the two main festivals I am doing this summer. The first is the Edmonton international fringe festival from August 16 – 26, 2018 and the second is the Vancouver International fringe festival from September 6 – 16, 2018. If you are in and around those areas during these times, I implore you, see my show, say hi, have fun!
